In the wild, the female feeds her young with whatever she can carry in her barrel. The pup, too frail and small to hunt for itself, depends entirely on its mother's foraging. This fragile bond between mother and offspring will last for many more months. Should anything happen to the mother, the pup will almost certainly perish.
